Model Train Expo at the Chatsworth Depot
The Model Train Expo will return to the Chatsworth Depot on Saturday, April 12, 2025. This is one of the more popular events with model trains of various scale including a couple of ride on train. The trains will operate both inside and outside the depot. Groups from the Atlanta and Chattanooga areas will come to display their model railroad.
A model train set will be raffled off that day. Tickets are $1.00 each and can be purchased at the event or in advance from the Crown Achieves, the Murray County Clerk of Court office, Pat’s Antiques, or from depot committee members. The model train is a complete ready to run Lionel Thomas the Tank Engine train with locomotive, cars, track, and power supply. A $100 cash prize will be one of the raffle prizes.
The depot’s big blue train will be giving rides. Operating model trains will feature the Georgia Garden Railroad Society’s G scale trains, NMRA N & HO Scale model train layouts, an operating Lionel train from The Southern Museum in Kennesaw, a uniquely decorated Easter train, a special Paw Patrol train for our younger kids to interact with, as well as the depot’s own HO and G Scale operating layouts, Vendors expected to be on site include those offering model trains and accessories of all scales.
One of our returning ride on trains will feature kid powered flat cars. The youngsters can use hand cranks to go as fast or slow as they like. This was very popular last year.
The historic 1905 L&N RR Depot will open for viewing the model trains at 12 noon and remain open until 4 pm. The 1960 SCL Caboose located behind the depot will open for tours during the same hours. The adjacent Wright Hotel will open for tours from 1 to 4 pm. Admission is free complements of our 2025 business partners Modern Woodmen, Peeples Funeral Home, Murray County Elected Officials, Captain D’s, Bojangles, Krystal, First National Community Bank, and Bradley’s Ace Hardware. Donations are always appreciated. The Chatsworth Depot is located at 219 N. First Avenue, Chatsworth, Georgia.
