Chatsworth Railroad Theme Saturday

Join Piedmont Division Director of Operations Walt Liles on Railroad Theme Saturday at the Americana Music Series at the historic Chatsworth, GA Depot.   Walt will be operating his new 4' x 6' HO scale oval layout and promoting the Piedmont Division.

The hotel will display railroad art and pictures and feature a “Train” story time for the youngsters. Artists will present a program of traditional ballads.

2nd Annual Piedmont Division Facebook Photo Contest

The Piedmont Division is holding its 2nd Annual Facebook Photo Contest in conjunction with Amtrak Train Days May 2 through May 9, 2015. 

Take a photo of a prototype or model train and post it to the Facebook group Piedmont Division, NMRA.  We were overwhelmed with the success of 2014's contest so we have expanded it into a weeklong event.

The winner will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Blue Ox Trains of Roswell, GA!

Contest Instructions and Guidelines

  1. This is a Facebook Contest.
  2. You must be a member of the Facebook Group Piedmont Division, NMRA.  If you are not a member, you may join the group.
  3. The subject can be a prototype or model.
  4. No limit to the number of photos that can be entered.
  5. Must be your photo.
  6. Include the location and time when you shot the photo and anything else you would like to share.
  7. Photos must be taken May 2 through May 9, 2015.
  8. Photos must be posted on Facebook May 2 through May 9.  No emails will be accepted.
  9. Photos with obscene content, including subject and text, are not permitted.  The Piedmont Division reserves the right to remove any photo.
  10. The winner will be announced May 11, 2015. 

Please, NO TRESPASSING on railroad property to take photos.  Be safe and have fun.

Amtrak Train Days 2015 Atlanta

The Piedmont Division will be hosting and displaying exhibits of Amtrak trains in HO Scale.There will also be models of other passenger trains on display. The event includes:

  • G  Scale trains in the garden area, weather permitting .
  • Videos of train will be available for viewing throughout the day.
  • Local artists and performers will be on hand.
  • Georgia Operation Lifesaver will be on hand to provide information about safety on and around railroad tracks and highway-rail grade crossings.

Come by and visit and catch the daily trains as well. It will be a fun-filled day of trains.

Trains, Trains, Trains

The Piedmont Division is proud to participate in the fifth annual Trains, Trains, Trains at the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History.

The special railroad-themed event will include new layouts and activities, as well as an expanded version of the Museum gift shop that will offer guests an even larger array of train and railroad items made especially for kids. 

In addition to the day’s special events, visitors have an opportunity to explore the Museum’s permanent exhibits to learn about the Great Locomotive Chase, one of the Civil War’s most thrilling episodes. The Museum also includes a full-scale replica of The Glover Machine Works, a locomotive factory in nearby Marietta that helped rebuild the South after the war.

The museum is located at 2829 Cherokee Street in downtown Kennesaw (exit 273 on Interstate 75).

Clinic:    "Scratchbuilding a plate girder bridge", presented by Charlie Crawford, MMR.

Bring and Brag:  Bring your Favorite Model, any scale, to share with your fellow members.  

The Board of Directors meets prior to the Division meeting.  The BOD meeting begins at 6:00 p.m.


The Fall Model and Photo Contests will be held during the meeting. 

Please bring models and photos, along with completed contest forms and other paperwork, to the contest room beginning at 7:00.

The judging of the Model Contest is conducted by teams of experienced judges using a point scoring system providing a grade between zero and 125 pts. Five factors are judged including construction, conformity, detail, appearance and scratch built. The final point score is the basis for award ranking.  Attaining a point score of 87.5 pts or 70% entitles the entrant to a Merit Award which counts towards Master Builder Awards in the NMRA Achievement Program.
