Clinic:   George Eichelberger presents "Modeling Asheville-An Update in Progress"

George will be showing prototype details and operation that are included in his layout. He will be updating construction progress to date and experiences with everything from curved turnout construction. George is trying to model Southern Railway at Asheville, NC as accurately as possible. He will also be discussing issues while working with DCC on a large layout. He will have prototype drawings, model drawings, videos, and photos throughout the session.

Bring and Brag:  Bring out your favorite Southern Railway railroad equipment: Boxcars, gons, passenger cars, cabooses, locos.

Division Meeting

Clinic:   Dave Booker presents "Interchanging & Staging-Modern Short Line Meets Model Railroads."

Dave will cover how interchanges take place on the railroad. He will also show the computer systems used to manage a live interchange between railroads. He will then be sharing how to relate how he simulates these activities on his Coosa Valley RR. The goal is to educate not only how railroads do their business in the real world, but how to set up staging on your railroad to simulate the same events.

Bring and Brag:  January being inauguration month, bring your photos or stories of riding trains to Washington, DC for past inaugurations. As always, you can bring anything train related to share as well.

Trains, Trains, Trains!

The Piedmont Division is proud to participate in Trains, Trains, Trains! at the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History.

The Kids Operating Layout will be running and the membership table will be staffed for visitors to learn more about the Piedmont Division.

The special railroad-themed event will include new layouts and activities, as well as an expanded version of the Museum gift shop that will offer guests an even larger array of train and railroad items made especially for kids.   In addition to the day’s special events, visitors have an opportunity to explore the Museum’s permanent exhibits to learn about the Great Locomotive Chase, one of the Civil War’s most thrilling episodes.

Train'in Camp - Achievement Program

Randall Watson, SER Achievement Program Chair, and Peter Youngblood, MMR, present the Piedmont Division's third 2016 special clinic, "The NMRA Achievement Program."  If are anxious to learn about the Achievement Program and the skills necessary in Model Railroading, you are encouraged to attend.

Clinic:   Weathering with PanPastels.  Peter Youngblood, MMR will demonstrate step-by-step how easily and quickly you can weather a freight car using PanPastels. You'll watch a short PowerPoint presentation followed by a hands-on demonstration with video assistance. 

Bring and Brag:  Bring some of your favorite models that you may be currently working on.  Rolling stock or structures. 

Board of Directors elections will be held during the meeting.  Please review Voting instructions and candidates statements before the meeting.  Chuck Hoesch and his elections team will be in the lobby.

Board of Directors Elections

The Piedmont Division will hold 2015 Board of Directors Elections Tuesday, November 8, 2016 during the general meeting at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 805 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.

Please remember to review your candidates running for offices and place your vote at the meeting.  Chuck Hoesch and his elections team will be in the lobby. 

Division Meeting and Model and Photo Contests

Clinic:   Joe Gelmini, MMR's Georgia Great Southern.  Joe's magnificent N scale layout was featured in the May 2016 edition of Model Railroader.  Joe will be sharing all kinds of information regarding the construction and operation of his home layout. Don’t miss this clinic!

Bring and Brag:  Bring some of your favorite Timetables or railroad artifacts that may be of interest to our group.

The Fall Model and Photo Contests will be held during the meeting. 

Please bring models and photos, along with completed contest forms and other paperwork, to the contest room beginning at 7:00.

The judging of the Model Contest is conducted by teams of experienced judges using a point scoring system providing a grade between zero and 125 pts. Five factors are judged including construction, conformity, detail, appearance and scratch built. The final point score is the basis for award ranking.  Attaining a point score of 87.5 pts or 70% entitles the entrant to a Merit Award which counts towards Master Builder Awards in the NMRA Achievement Program.

Clinic:    Shane Wilson of scaletrains.com will speak on the manufacturer's perspective of making model trains.  It will be exciting to have the president of a major hobby manufacturer speak to the division.  Please attend and welcome our special guest. 

Bring and Brag:  Bring your cars with all sorts of loads. They may be commercial or scratch built. Let’s get some ideas from all the different models.

Zephyr Up for Auction We will auction a complete Digitrax Zephyr system at this month's meeting to raise funds for the Piedmont Pilgrimage.  The system was donated due to the generosity of Digitrax.  Cash or check only!
