Welcome aboard the Santa Fe Railway, a composite of how it was in 1967 between La Junta, CO and Flagstaff, AZ. A geographic area representing three southwestern states from a high plain in Colorado to a 3.5 % mountain grade into New Mexico and across a deep canyon in Arizona.

The time of combined “Super Chief/El Capitan” first class passenger trains from Chicago to Los Angeles and return. A time of heavy freight traffic and mail-by-rail contracts in their final year. First generation diesels are giving way to second generation power while Amtrak steadily advances on the horizon.

Steam locomotives, ghosts of the past, may reappear as soulless relics displayed behind chain link in city parks. Rumors abound two have been secreted away to be resurrected, perhaps to run again on special fan trips. One can only hope.
