The Alpine Central Railroad (former Western Division, C&S, DSP&P Railroad) is HOn3 with dual gauge HO.  Both areas are convoluted dogbone design occupying two 20x13 square foot rooms (total 520 sf) until I can get clearance from the ACRR director of finance to expand into a 625 sq ft room.  In the meantime we have installed a JMRI cab into the outer room designed after a narrow gauge locomotive cab for train control.  The layout is operated with DCS100/DB150 on Loconet with JMRI and cell phone throttles.  Depending on attendance, during the open house members are encouraged to download the apps and operate locomotives using their own cellphones.  The layout has been used to acquire the four NMRA AP awards for the layout as well as to display the models used to acquire the three model construction AP awards.

The layout is loosely based on the C&S (former DSP&P) railroad grade from Como to Gunnison Colorado around 1917 assuming the reopening of the Alpine Tunnel after collapse and operation as a short line using C&S and D&RGW equipment.

The layout is L-girder construction with handlaid, FastTracks and bought track and turnouts with Tortoise, Switchmaster, twin coil and Tam Valley controls.  There are double deck areas of the layout with two helices.  All areas of scenery have started but none will ever be complete.  The layout is designed for operation with block detection using Watchman panels and floor lighting and structure lighting for night running.
